How do I get to central London hotels from Heathrow airport?
January 26, 2009 - What is the best mode of transportation from LHR to my Hotel in Central London?
If I use the Heathrow express train, how many minutes will it take to arrive at Paddington Station?
First thing is to find out where the hotel is in relation to the nearest Underground stations. Get the hotels post code, type it into streetmap.co.uk and it will show you where the hotel is. Enlarge the map until you see the nearest Underground station. Assuming you don't have a lot of luggage take the tube at Heathrow(Underground), it is well signposted in all terminals. As Heathrow is the "end of the line" you are guaranteed to get a seat going back into London and they carriages have extra space for luggage.
OKAY. Well, the Heathrow Express is probably the smartest way to go. You have a few options -- 1) Hire a taxi to take you to Paddington Station. This will cost anywhere between £35 - 60; and will be cheaper if you can call a cab company ahead of time. It's expensive, but it's the ultimate in convenience. For probably a few pound more, they could take you directly to your hotel (what area are you staying?). 2) Take the Tube. There is an exit from Heathrow station directly to the underground -- Take the Piccadilly line to Gloucester (fyi: pronounced gloss-ter) Road, and transfer to the Circle line towards High St. Kensington, and get off at Paddington Station. This will take between 45 min and an hour and a half, knowing that the circle line is more frequently suspended than not. But you could be lucky :). The HUGE con with this would be that you have to lug all your luggage around the stations -- I'm not sure that Paddington has elevators and you would most likely have to climb a staircase or two (no more than that because it's a circle train) with all your luggage. But this trip would only cost you about £5. 3) Take the Heathrow Express! It would be like the tube, except easier and faster because you don't have to transfer anywhere. It's about £16 for a one-way and takes something like 15 minutes. Good luck, and ENJOY LONDON!! I've just spent about five months there, and lived near Paddington. There is SO MUCH to see so don't be bored!
The Heathrow Express takes 15 to 20 minutes to reach Paddington Station and there is a large taxi rank adjacent to Platform 1 at Paddington. However the best mode of travel into central London really depends on the area your hotel is in. If for example it is located in Hammersmith or Earls Court, you'd be advised to take the Underground (Subway) Piccadilly Line which passes through those places
- Heathrow Express train to Paddington and then London Underground of taxi to central London.
- taxi
- The cheapest and quickest way is the Tube.
Don,t listen to cozylumm she don,t know nothing always use a London taxi black cab when first arriving in the city you will pay around £50.The information from the driver is priceless where to go whats the best markets what to see the best restaurants cost wise you will end up saving a fortune.Tourist who use the train lose out and are prayed upon by pickpockets and never use a unlisened taxi they can easily get losed in the big city.
It really depends on how much luggage, children, you've got etc. If you're staying at a big central london hotel they might be able to collect you from Heathrow, worth checking. Other than that I would go for Heathrow express then taxi from Paddington. If you are travelling light use the underground.
