What's the cheapest way to travel from London to Nottingham?
September 4, 2008 - I could be going to London this spring, but as long as I'm in the country, I would like to visit a friend in Nottingham... What's the cheapest and most convinient way to travel from London to Nottingham?
I believe that I also mentioned "convinient". So no, I won't be walking or taking a bike all the way to Nottingham. I've only had one good answer so far, but I'd like a second opinion before I decide.

You could use either National Express (coach) or National Rail. Going by rail will be more expensive and take approximately an hour less (2 hours compared to 3 hours by coach, not taking into account the time getting to the station the coach/train leaves from). Both National Rail and National Express offer discounts for booking in advance. Depending on your age/circumstances you may be elegible to buy a rail/coach discount card - which typically offer a 1/3 saving. A National Express "funfare" London to Nottingham return is about 22GBP, a "standard" return is approx 28GBP. A National Rail "advance" return costs roughly 35-40GBP, and a "saver/cheap day return" costs 40-50GBP.
